What is a Home Remedy?
A Home remedy is defined as a simply prepared medication or tonic often of unproven effectiveness administered without prescription or professional supervision. Home remedies may or may not have medicinal properties that treat or cure the disease or ailment in question. Every civilization defines, views and applies its home remedies differently. Historic cookbooks are frequently full of remedies for dyspepsia, fevers, and female complaints. Home remedies may or may not have medicinal properties that treat or cure the disease or ailment in question, as they are typically passed along by laypersons.
Ghee has been an important ingredient in the Indian kitchen, since a long time. It is not only used as it is, but it is also used with few herbs to treat a few common diseases. In daily routine, Desi ghee adds a healthy element to our food. Ayurveda describes many qualities of Desi Cow Ghee.
Ghee is essentially butter that has been strained to have all the milk solids and water removed, leaving just the protein and fat. While this combination of protein and butterfat may sound unnerving, cow ghee is actually full of beneficial nutrients and contains a balance of short, medium and long-chain fatty acids which help to enhance the absorption of nutrients and alkalize the blood.
Desi cow ghee has long been used in Indian cooking and is used in many Ayurvedic remedies due to its potency and therapeutic benefits.

Herbal Preparations
Ghee has always been used in herbal preparations in India. You can make your own medicated ghee by following this recipe:
- Take about half a liter of ghee and heat in a heavy bottomed pan.
- In a separate pan, heat another half liter of ghee along with cinnamon, powdered ginger, and cardamom. Let the spices splutter, but do not let the ghee burn.
- Once the ghee is flavored intensely, add the other half and stir for a minute before straining the spices out.
- Cool the ghee and use it as an herbal remedy for digestion, cough and cold or even constipation. In fact, apart from cooking, this herbal preparation is also good for most of the other uses.
